Getting Around

Transportation
Airport transportation for the hotels we have room blocks secured is available via Texans Shuttle for approximately $40 round trip to IAH and $30 to HOU. Transportation to the hotel can be arranged in the baggage claim area upon arrival. Shuttles depart from the hotels approximately once per hour.

Houston is a very car dependent city. It is recommended that you have access to a car if you are not staying in the downtown area.

If you do stay in the downtown area, the Metro Transit Authority recently completed construction on a light rail that connects points downtown with major points of interest including the The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Houston Museum of Natural Science (they have an uber cool butterfly exhibit, IMAX theater and Planetarium), Texas Medical Center (let's hope you don't need to visit it!), Rice University (Jen's Alma Mater), the Houston Zoo, and the Astrodome/Reliant Park. A day pass allowing you to get on and off multiple times for 24h on the MetroRail and all buses costs just $2.

In addition, there are many other lodging options within a 15 minute drive of the ceremony and reception sites. We recommend staying at either the Galleria area or the Greenway Plaza area as some areas of downtown may be dodgy. A recent search of properties in both of these areas on Travelocity yielded the following rates:

Best Western Fountainview Inn $63 (AAA rate, one king bed)
Days Inn Suites Galleria Mall $59
Four Points by Sheraton Southwest $63 (AAA rate, one king or two full)
La Quinta Inn Greenway $69 (one king bed or two full beds)

If you're really in for a gamble and are just looking for a place to crash, try your hand at Hotwire. Jen has had great experiences with them before... a 3.5 star hotel in Dallas for $42 for example. A search on 5/31 found an offer for a 2 star hotel in the Galleria area for $37.

Flight information

Flight Information

The major airports servicing Houston are Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Houston Hobby Airport (HOU). Most flights arrive at IAH, though some regional flights may arrive at HOU. Houston Intercontinental Airport is located on the north side of the city, approximately 40 minutes from downtown. HOU is located just south of the city, approximately 15 minutes from downtown.

Group rates for airfare have been secured with Continental Airlines, the major carrier servicing Houston's Intercontinental Airport. To take advantage of the discount, visit Continental's web page to book your flight using offer code ZTQPU22Z59. The discount is as follows:
5% on fares under $299
8% on fares $299 and up
You may also call the Continental Reservations phone line at 800-468-7022 and provide the Z code: ZTQP and Agreement code: U22Z59 to the agent. The phone reservation system will charge you an extra $10 service charge and the discount will be reduced to 2% and 5% respectively, so we recommend booking through the website.
