All I can say is, thank goodness I met Ryan when I did. I don't think he would have fallen prey to my feminine charms had he seen me in some of these getups:
Moms, as cute as it is to mix as many neon colors as you possibly can on your unsuspecting child, just don't do it. This is summer 1980 on the family vacation to, you guessed it, Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. I think these days, cops would ticket you for throwing 4 kids ranging from 5 to 11 in the backboards of the station wagon unsecured with 4 adults in the front. It was a veritable clown car.
Another family vacation, this time with 4 kids ranging from 8 to 13 in the back seat of a 4 door sedan, again, unrestricted driving in one go 1000+ miles to Disneyworld in 1983. Good thing none of us ate beans! This is just one in a series of unfortunate headwear decisions. Note the beautiful toothless smile and the tres chic ponchos. We dubbed these, creatively, Something Plastic to Wear. Give us a break! We were only 8-10!
Same trip, all the kids. From left, my brother Bryan, my cousin Benson, a character from the cartoon where Zip-a-dee-doo-da came from (can't remember it now), me, and my cousin Arnold. Why is it that everyone else looks normal? Why am I the only one in a puffy neon colorblock coat and *gasp!* slouchy Flashdance legwarmers?
Fast forward a few years. Christmas 1990. I can tell because Bryan's hair had managed to grow back a bit after being treated like a sheep his freshman year at Texas A&M. Yes, those Aggie farmers think everyone needs to be shorn. But that's not what's blinding me in this picture. Check out my EXTRA POUFY SLEEVES! Move along now... nothing to see here.
This must have been on a trip to the Grand Canyon in 1995. 1995, people! That was only 11 years ago, so how could I already be this embarassed? Well, just don't stare at the ginormous glasses perched precariously atop my less than supportive nose. Should teach me to look presentable before my dad breaks out the camera next time.
And finally in the chronicles of fashion faux pas, check this one out. Like I said, one of many unfortunate headwear decisions. This must have been only a few years ago. Good thing I managed to clean myself up before 2003!
Of course cleaning up, is a relative term. Who knows what was REALLY going on with Elvis at Bryan's Las Vegas wedding last year. We'll just chalk it up to the wedding exhiliration. In a few years, I'll bet I'll cringe at the site of a paisley dress. But, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
