Our photogallery

Okay, since I'm not at home as I post this, you'll just have to accept a couple of pictures that have been sent to us and are thus accessible from my email account... Check back in a few weeks to see what's new.

This was taken right before we went to someone's wedding... I like to think that the haircut was cute for a little while. Or maybe I'm just telling myself that. I started to grow it out not so long afterwards and is only just now long enough.

This must be the face that Ryan always complains about. He says it's scary when I'm staring up at him with this slightly crazed giant toothy grin on my face. Ask him to imitate it for you. He usually ends up saying, Stop it! Stop it! and then pokes me in the ribs. I guess I creep him out when I look like Chuckie, the posessed puppet.

This picture was taken at the October 2005 wedding of Ryan's Best Man Gene Whipps and his wife Valerie. In Florida. And it's 85 degrees outside. Can anyone enlighten us as to why I'm apparently huddled in Ryan's armpit clutching at my completely inadequate jacket for warmth?

Bride's Attendants

Matron of Honor: Kristi Lin
I met Kristi years ago when she was my freshman year roommate at Rice. I can still remember what she was wearing that fateful day: a purple plaid shirt, purple shorts, purple socks, and Cole Haan moccasins. It didn't take long before I began to torture her with Dress Like Your Roommate day or singing "Cecilia" at the top of my lungs in our afternoon chemistry lab. She was a trooper and survived four years of rooming, dancing on tables at parties, staying up all night playing bridge and Pictionary, and occasionally (very occasionally) studying with me.

At some point, I told her she'd have to be my maid of honor and then after we were married we could have a pediatrics practice in Santa Barbara, live in neighboring houses on the beach, and send our kids to the same school. While I gave up on the idea of becoming a doctor and Kristi traded in Pediatrics for ophthalmology, Kristi kept her promise to be my maid of honor all these years later. Thank you, Kristi, for always standing by me, no matter what kind of hair brained idea I might have.

Emily Liu
I met Emily, too, during my years at Rice. Since then, she has been a constant shopping companion and can tear up the dance floor like nobody's business. She's always said that the two of us can have fun in a cardboard box. I'd have to agree.

As if that weren't enough, she's inspired me to try things outside of my comfort zone. She has directed my stage debut, gotten me out in the sandpit for a game of volleyball, and even encouraged me to take (who'd-a-thunk-it) non-science classes. Even though I might turn the wrong direction on stage, close my eyes and duck when a volleyball comes flying at me, or not know the difference between a debit or a credit on a balance sheet, she'd always cheer me on for trying. And when the going got tough, she made sure I'd stick it out. These days, she's putting her multiple skills to work in the marketing group at Cadbury-Schwepps. Thank you, M, for always being my sounding board.

Bryan and Jennifer Chee
Um, I can't remember meeting Bryan. There are certainly pictures of the day I was brought home from the hospital when my parents put me in his arms. He stared up at them with wide eyes of wonderment as if to ask, "And what am I supposed to do with this?" He suffered through too many years of being blamed for fighting with me, my temper tantrums, and general little sister abuse. Hah, you're stuck with me bro!

But really, Bryan's taken it all in stride. I will count on him as we get older to carry on the family traditions and I'm definitely going to their house for winter melon soup and steamed fish!

I've only known Jennifer for a short while, but in the 3 years since we've met, she's become the sister I never had. Jennifer has helped me through these crazy waters known as engagement with humor and patience. I'm glad to be sharing the same moniker (for now) and entrust her with keeping Bryan in line.

Arnold Chee
Arnold is one of my cousins. Having lived next door to each other and seeing each other at every birthday, holiday and occasional long car ride to Florida imaginable for the past 31 years, we've grown to accept each other. I realized a long time ago that Arnold is one of the "go to" guys in the family. Arnold ventured into the great unknown (that is, not Texas) to go to college in Baltimore, but prompted returned to his roots and decided to take up residence at Rice University to cater to the faculty's every IT need.

And because you'll probably hear this story anyway at the wedding from my father, Arnold has been known as the "door jumper" ever since that 1983 trip to Disneyworld. Just ask him why.

Tom Henley in the black shirt
Ryan met Tom during grad school at UCLA four years ago. He was immediately drawn to his sexy New Zealand accent and use of the exotic terms "chilly bin" and "jumper". Tom can always be depended upon to have large quantities of meat on hand for any party occassion, usually lamb for which he is especially fond. When not traveling to China as the chief engineer for his company (his Mandarin is passable at least to the taxi drivers), he can be found taking hundreds of pictures on various hikes and bike rides.

Joe Hsieh
Jen met Joe eons ago probably somewhere on the playground at Briargrove Elementary School. We lost touch until high school when we both ended up on the Lee Tournament Committee organizing an event where only the geekiest of the geeks from all over the city would show up on a Saturday to take tests for fun. Oh, and the blue ribbons. But Joe proved to be infinitely patient in tolerating my constant whines of "Joe, come pick me up!". So he'd drive the two blocks from his house to mine and we'd go to Andrew's to play basketball or pool or something. Joe even tolerated being dragged off to prom upon my insistence.

Currently, Joe is looking to explore the world outside the Austin city limits, so if anyone is in need of a good IT guy, track down Joe. Then challenge him to a duel, but only with a foil and the appropriate protective equipment, because I'd love to actually see him fence.

David Lincoln
Ryan met David shortly after moving to LA at the climbing gym. David has to be one of the most fun people to climb with due to his high energy and enthusiasm. Plus, he never takes himself too seriously... I mean, who else can pull off a hot pink skull and cross bones hat with camouflage shorts and geta (the wooden Japanese flip flops)? David is one of our friends in the "business" as they call it in LA, but when the shooting schedule for his TV show is not so busy, he's still hard to track down as he's usually off somewhere climbing, snowboarding, or surfing.

Mark Teoh
Mark is another of my cousins and he's always shared a special place in my life as being the one who's exactly 360 days, not a year, older than me. Mark is usually the one wreaking havoc in the Chee Family Football games at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but what else might you expect from a guy whose method for stopping while on rollerblades was to fall to his knee pads and skid to a stop? Otherwise, he's a mean card player with a soft heart. Mark hopes to change the face of education in America... of course, I think he would need to stop obtaining post-graduate degrees some day to do so.
